Fall in Vermont

My husband and I are falling in love with Vermont this week. We flew into Boston and rented a car and drove to Killington, VT. Neither of us has a "gypsy soul" so we rented an AirBNB in the Green Mountains in the Killington ski resort area and decided to just drive eveywhere we want to go
The colors of fall are magical in the mountains, but my iphone camera doesn't capture the beauty of the fall foliage! Day one--we went exploring Killington & Rutland. We ate dinner at a wonderful upscale pizzaria called Domenic's. I can't say enough about how amazing this restaurant is--craft beers, an extensive wine list, great food, and wonderful service! It is a must-try if you visit Killington! Day 2, we were back in Rutland to buy me a new phone (mime was damaged--another story for another day). We ate breakfast at Johnny Boy's Pancake House, and the pumpkin pancakes with walnuts were delicious. It was cold and raining, but we explored Rutalnd and saw the downtown area before we headed to Manchester! Machester is a beautiful and quaint town that reminds me of a scene from a Hallmark movie. We spent the afternoon snooping in shops and exploring the architecture and homes! We had dinner at YE Olde Tavern (you MUST have reservations--luckily, I made ours 2 months ago)! We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and baked brie with toasted almonds and maple brown sugar--OMG--if heaven were a cheese, it would be this baked brie--absolutely delicious! We loved the stuffed mushrooms, too! The main entrees were also delicious, and we were both too full for dessert! Today is day 3, and we went to Woodstock and Plymouth to explore. Woodstock is beautiful, but it was crowded with tourists today--even the locals were complaining! LOL! We grabbed a couple of delicious sandwiches from the The Village Butcher Shop, and picnicked al fresco on the sidewalk cafe tables. We shopped some--I bougt a new book at a local book shop and we explored the old historic homes on beautiful tree-lined streets! We also indulged in a maple creemie! We then took a scenic road to Plymouth and saw the Calvin Coolidge museum! Honestly, driving through Vermont is just beautiful and relaxing! Tonight we are eating locally, and tomorrow, we are heading North to Stowe! Stay tuned for more highlights!

Charleston: King Street and History

On our first full day in Charleston, we started our day shopping on King Street. Larry needed coffee, so we stopped in King's cookies, so he could get an iced coffee. I couldn't resist ordering a pecan praline cookie, especially since I saw them come straight out of the oven--the cookie was devine! We wandered into some of the art galleries and oogled over some of the local art--very tempted to go back and buy some. We also snooped in some of the antique and home stores. We found our way into Charleston Place--a very fancy hotel with high-end designer stores like Gucci, Rolex, and Louis Vuitton. I immediately texted Stephanie and told her about it--she immediately looked it up and booked a stay for her and Michael for this sunmer! Trains, busses, and witches— Oh My!

On the last day of our trip, we decided to venture out to Salem--I mean, Salem in October has to be amazing, right!? We took the metro train to Wonderland and caught a bus that took us to Salem! It was relatively easy to get there. Salem is a lovely town, but in October, it is like a Halloween Ren-Fair: lots of shopping, open-air markets, street performers, and tourists dressed as witches! It is pretty crazy with the sheer numbers of people--unfortunely, we didn't get to visit any of the museums because by 11:00am, they were sold out for the day! Larry finally got to have a lobster roll and Boston Lager--he said both were delicious! I am glad we got to experience Salem in October, but I would like to come back during a non-peak time to enjoy all it has to offer! Tomorrow, we head back home--we have loved every second of our fall vacation!

Charleston: Rainy Days

Day 3 of our Charleston adventure was lazy and quiet because it rained all day. Neither of us was up for sightseeing in the rain, so we napped, played games, and just spent the day being with one another. We ventured our for lunch at Bahama Breeze--Larry had a pina colado and we shared some empanadas! The food was actually really good. I got to wear my cute sun/rain hat, and it remninded me of my Titi--she wore these kinds of hats all the time. Anyway--sometimes our vacations are about reconnecting and spending quiet times with each other--we dont always have to be on the go and doing tourists' things! Tomorrow, we will venture out and see more, but today, we are quite content, snuggling on the couch, listening to the rain, and sharing our quiet moments!
